Moroccan security forces thwarted an international drug trafficking operation on Tuesday, seizing over 37 kilograms of cocaine at the El Guergarat border post near Dakhla, according to a security source.
The joint operation, conducted by National Security and Customs officials, uncovered 37.6kg of cocaine concealed in 36 packages hidden in the cabin of a Moroccan-registered international transport truck. The truck, which was carrying a shipment of dried fruits, had arrived at the border from a sub-Saharan African country.
Authorities arrested the driver, a 30-year-old Moroccan national, and an investigation is underway under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office. The probe aims to uncover both local and international connections involved in the trafficking network.
This operation forms part of ongoing efforts by Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) to combat international drug trafficking, particularly the smuggling of hard drugs and psychotropic substances into the country.
