Excess Sugar and Salt Increase the Risk of Digestive System Can..cer

A recent scientific study conducted in Brazil has revealed a link between the consumption of sugars found in processed foods and an increased risk of stomach cancer. It also highlights the negative impact of high amounts of sodium, present in table salt, on digestive system health.

According to the study, funded by the São Paulo Research Institute and conducted on a sample of 1,751 participants, sodium damages the stomach lining, potentially increasing the likelihood of cancerous tumors developing.

Published in the scientific journal BMC Medicine, the study emphasizes the health risks associated with an unbalanced diet, particularly excessive consumption of processed meats, fast foods, and sugary beverages. Researchers found that sweeteners added to certain foods and drinks raise the risk of cancer by 7% to 21%. Sodium was also identified as one of the key factors contributing to digestive system tumors, according to the science research website SciTech Daily.
