Google Opens the Door to AI-Powered Image Transformation

To mark the 10th anniversary of its “Google Photos” service, Google has announced the integration of new AI-powered tools designed to enhance the photo editing experience and unlock creative possibilities that were once exclusive to professionals.

The new tool, called “Reimagine and Auto Frame,” is no longer limited to Pixel phones. It is now available to a broader range of users, leveraging generative AI to edit images in easy and innovative ways.

With simple text prompts, users can reshape the content of an image—for example, by transforming a gray sky into a clear blue one. The “Auto Frame” feature also offers various editing options, such as cropping, expanding, or automatically filling empty spaces using AI.

Google states that these features are designed to simplify editing tasks by consolidating all tools into a single interface and providing smart suggestions that respond to the image. Among these tools is the “AI Enhancement” option, which applies multiple effects in a single step—such as sharpening photos or removing unwanted elements—enabling quick and efficient edits.

The service also allows users to select specific parts of an image to receive precise editing suggestions, which might include adjusting lighting or softening background contrast as needed.

Google will begin rolling out these features on Android devices this month, with iOS support expected later this year.

In parallel, the company has also launched a new album-sharing feature via QR codes, making it easier to share photos with others—either by displaying the code on-screen or printing it for group events. Scanning the code allows anyone to view and contribute to the shared album.
