A research team from Seoul National University in South Korea has found remarkable results regarding the impact of warming the feet on sleep quality. The study revealed that keeping the feet warm not only speeds up the process of falling asleep but also reduces frequent awakenings during the night, which positively affects overall rest and body comfort.
The researchers explained that warmth helps the body regulate its temperature more efficiently, reducing the need for energy consumption during sleep and thereby promoting smoother and deeper rest.
On the other hand, doctors pointed out that constantly feeling cold feet can be a sign of various health issues, such as mild hypothermia, wearing uncomfortable shoes, or even hormonal fluctuations commonly seen in women. Iron deficiency and the resulting anemia may also impair oxygen flow to the extremities, which explains cold feet in some cases.
The most serious concern, according to experts, is the potential for arteriosclerosis—a condition where the arteries become narrowed or blocked, which can lead to severe complications, including amputation in extreme cases. For persistent symptoms, a Doppler ultrasound scan of the leg’s blood vessels is recommended.
The solution might be as simple as wearing warm, soft socks, but ongoing coldness in the feet should prompt medical evaluation to identify and address the underlying cause.
