Ramadan: A Rich and Abundant Date Market in Errachidia

As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, the date market in Errachidia is thriving. Stalls are filled with a wide variety of dates, catering to all tastes and budgets, attracting both locals and visitors from other regions.

Among the available varieties are Mejhoul, Feggous, Khalt, Bouskri, and Bouslikhen. These dates are primarily sourced from the date-growing regions of Aoufous, Lamaadid, Rissani, Boudenib, Tinejdad, and Goulmima, with wholesalers ensuring daily supplies.

Highly nutritious, dates are a staple food during Ramadan, leading to a surge in demand and a significant boost in sales. “The supply is abundant, and prices remain affordable,” says Moulay Sadik Omar Alaoui, delegate of the Errachidia date market. He notes that despite last year’s climate challenges and fires that affected some oases, the market remains well-stocked.

Prices range between 15 and 20 dirhams per kilogram, while premium varieties, such as Mejhoul Royal, can reach 120 dirhams per kilogram. The official highlights the importance of local dates, renowned for their exceptional flavor and superior quality, which have earned them strong demand internationally.
