A recent scientific study has revealed a surprising discovery: adopting a plant-based diet for just eight weeks could be the key to eternal youth.
This study, published in the journal “BMC Medicine”, has shown that a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains leads to a significant decrease in the biological age of individuals. The results, obtained by researchers at Stanford University in California, are based on a study conducted on 21 pairs of identical twins aged 39. Half of them followed a vegan diet, while the other half maintained an omnivorous diet.
According to the study, the age of the heart, hormones, liver, inflammatory system, and metabolism decreased in participants who followed a vegan diet, highlighting the absence of such changes in people whose diets included meat, eggs, and dairy products. The study also revealed that those who followed a plant-based diet during the study period lost an average of two kilograms more than those who did not, highlighting the need for further research to understand the relationship between diet, weight, and aging, as well as the long-term effects of vegan diets.
According to the “Daily Mail”, Tom Sanders, emeritus professor of nutrition and dietetics at King’s College London, said in response to the study that the research had found some differences in terms of aging in vegans, but that it did not take into account the fact that vitamin and mineral deficiencies often take years to disappear or appear. He added that research also indicates that a vegan diet may not be beneficial for the health of older people. Sanders explained that “while observational studies suggest that vegan diets may have positive health effects at middle age, this is not the case for older vegans who appear to be more likely to suffer from muscle loss, decreased bone density, and neurological disorders that have a significant impact on quality of life.”
