Alalam24, The Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication announces that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has chosen Tangier to be the international host of jazz for the year 2024.
The choice of the Kingdom of Morocco to host this important cultural event is a recognition of the efforts made by the Kingdom, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, in the field of culture and arts.
This event, which will take place over four days, from April 27 to 30, 2024, is organized in partnership between UNESCO, the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and the Tangier City Council. It confirms the importance of jazz in the city and highlights the cultural and artistic links between the peoples of Morocco, Europe and Africa.
The program will include a series of educational programs and activities for students of all ages, a special performance highlighting the importance of Moroccan Gnawa music and its connection to jazz, discussions on the history of jazz and its influence on the city of Tangier, and much more.
The All-Star Global Concert will take place in the new and magnificent Tangier Arts and Culture Palace, an architectural masterpiece. It will be broadcast on the YouTube channel and Facebook page of the United Nations and UNESCO, allowing millions of viewers around the world to follow it.
Music lovers can look forward to the participation of legendary figures in jazz and blues. The All-Star Global Concert will be conducted by renowned pianist Herbie Hancock and musical director John Beasley (United States of America). It will feature performances by an international group of artists from around the world, including Gnawa musician Abdullah El Gourd (Morocco) and other internationally renowned artists.
