Pulmonary edema: causes and symptoms

Alalam24, The German Lung Clinics League has stated that pulmonary edema is an accumulation of fluid in the lungs, which hinders oxygen exchange.

Acute pneumonia:

The League explained that the causes of pulmonary edema lie in acute pneumonia, heart disease, kidney failure, anaphylaxis, in addition to sepsis, inhalation of toxins and smoke poisoning.

Shortness of breath:

Symptoms of pulmonary edema include rapid and shallow breathing, dyspnea that worsens when lying down, as well as coughing and blue lips.

The League added that pulmonary edema is diagnosed by chest X-ray, magnetic resonance imaging and echocardiography, blood gas analysis and blood test.

Pulmonary edema requires urgent medical attention to avoid serious complications such as respiratory failure. Pulmonary edema can be treated with diuretics and oxygen therapy sessions.
