The Moroccan Forum for Democracy and Human Rights Presents Its Recommendations for Reforming the Moroccan Family Code
alalam24, In the context of the implementation of the royal high message sent by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the Prime Minister regarding the revision of the Moroccan Family Code, the Commission responsible for the revision of the Moroccan Family Code invited the Moroccan Forum for Democracy and Human Rights to attend a hearing. The hearing was held on Friday, December 8, 2023, at the headquarters of the Royal Academy of Morocco in Rabat. The Forum presented a presentation of its visions and proposals for the revision of the Code, as well as a written memorandum on the subject.
The Moroccan Forum for Democracy and Human Rights stressed the importance of the hearing sessions organized by the Commission as a real opportunity for serious social debate on legal rules that respect and preserve the specificities of a conservative Moroccan society.

The Forum also recalled that the Moroccan Family Code, which came into force nearly two decades ago, reflected the dynamism that Morocco has known at the beginning of the reign of King Mohammed VI. The Forum aspires to continue the progress and advancement of all the legal, democratic, and social projects opened by the Kingdom, through the development of areas of cooperation and communication between Moroccan civil society and human rights organizations and national, and international mechanisms concerned with human rights.
The Forum noted that Moroccan women occupy a central place in its references and literature, as it is one of the institutions that advocate for the need to protect women from all forms of gender-based discrimination, as well as to protect women victims of human trafficking from defamation and social stigma. In addition, it stressed the need to pay attention to girls and women with disabilities, stressing that justice for women will have a positive impact on society as a whole.

The Forum concluded its recommendations by focusing on the social, economic, cultural, and value-based developments that have taken place in Moroccan society in recent years, and which have had an impact on the entire family system. Indeed, many values of the Moroccan family have changed, and social living patterns have changed with them. Therefore, the big bet is to put in place a conception of the role of the family and the rules of its construction on rational bases and on the novelties of the era, while expanding the civil dimension of the text to be more abstract in its connection with the values of reason and with the rights that man has formulated and that have broadened our understanding of human dignity, in perfect coherence with the constitutional charter and Morocco’s human rights commitments and with the modern and current horizon of a strong, united, and supportive democratic society.
