Morocco’s Council of Advisors Discusses Bilateral Relations with British Delegation

Alalam24, During a meeting held in Rabat, Mr. Nizar Baraka, President of Morocco’s Council of Advisors, emphasized the significance of the parliamentary dimension in enhancing relations between the two countries. Mr. Baraka, during discussions with a delegation from the British National Liberal Club led by Lord Monroe Palmer, expressed Morocco’s readiness to support and develop bilateral relations further

In the beginning, Mr. Baraka commended the quality of the political relations between the two friendly nations, built on values of respect, understanding, and cooperation. He also stated that the Council of Advisors is prepared to actively contribute to the development of these bilateral relations and support them through various initiatives

Furthermore, Mr. Baraka expressed gratitude to the United Kingdom for its contribution to the search and relief efforts following the recent earthquake in the Al Hoceima region. He provided comprehensive explanations about the role and responsibilities of the Council of Advisors and how it fosters public discussion, making it a space for experience and dialogue on various national issues related to economic and social development

On another note, Mr. Baraka discussed the growing security threats in the Sahel and the Sahara region, emphasizing the absence of security and stability and the proliferation of armed groups and criminal gangs closely related to the Polisario Front. He also addressed the fabricated dispute over the sovereignty of Western Sahara, which has hindered regional development for over four decades. He underscored the importance of the Moroccan autonomy initiative for the southern regions as a framework for resolving this issue within national sovereignty and territorial integrity

Mr. Baraka highlighted the positive positions expressed by several European countries and the U.S. recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara

Lord Monroe Palmer expressed his pleasure at this visit, emphasizing that it falls within the framework of deeply rooted historical relations between the two friendly nations. He expressed admiration for Morocco’s progress in various fields, making it a model to be followed in the African continent

After sharing some insights into the parliamentary experience in his country, Lord Palmer stressed the need to strengthen parliamentary cooperation between the legislative bodies of both countries and to intensify coordination and consultation in various regional and international forums to serve common interests

He also pledged to convey the concerns discussed during this meeting to the British House of Lords, aiming to provide a better understanding of the developments in this region of the world
