During the Android Show 2026 event, Google announced a major transformation of “Gemini,” evolving it from a simple conversational chatbot into a proactive AI system (Agentic OS) integrated into Android 17.
Google explained that “Gemini” is now capable of independently performing complex multi-step tasks within applications, such as booking appointments and organizing purchases, making artificial intelligence the core driver of the user experience rather than just an additional tool.
A report by PhoneArena also revealed that the Chrome browser will become a personal assistant starting next month. Users will be able to access Gemini’s capabilities directly from the browser to complete and automate tasks.
The update will be available for Android users whose devices have at least 4 GB of RAM, while some advanced features will require subscriptions to Google AI Pro or Ultra plans.
Google also announced the integration of the “Nano Banana” image-generation tool into Chrome.
Users will be able to create images based on the content of the current webpage, such as designing infographics to explain complex topics or editing online real-estate photos to visualize how properties would look after changing furniture or décor.
Finally, Google confirmed that recent Samsung Galaxy smartphones and upcoming Pixel devices will receive the Gemini Intelligence platform with Android 17.
The platform will enable users to perform complex multi-step operations across various applications, particularly those related to food delivery, transportation services, and online shopping.
