New York City Discontinues Subway Surveillance Robot After Just Five Months

Alalam24, The New York Police Department (NYPD) has announced the discontinuation of its “K5” surveillance robot, which was deployed to patrol the subway tunnels for only five months. The authorities had decided to experiment with the robot in New York’s largest subway station last September.

While some hailed the robot as “the technological jewel of underground station security,” others dismissed it as “a rolling trash can.”

After a trial period, the authorities decided to terminate its use due to numerous issues, including battery charging problems and difficulties navigating steep stairs.

This decision highlights the challenges that surveillance technology can face. Authorities must find a balance between the effectiveness of innovation and the protection of privacy and the quality of services provided.
