Alalam24, Morocco’s Prime Minister, Aziz Akhannouch, engaged in discussions today with the Deputy Executive President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which took place in Marrakech
During these talks, the European officials commended Morocco’s exemplary handling of the aftermath of the Al Hoceima earthquake and praised the well-organized annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank in Marrakech. They also extended their congratulations to Morocco for securing the honor of co-hosting the 2030 World Cup along with Spain and Portugal
Mr. Dombrovskis, in a statement following the meeting, emphasized that the European Union regards Morocco as a “reliable and committed partner.” He expressed the Union’s desire to continue deepening bilateral cooperation across various partnership areas
He stated that this meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the economic integration of both parties, particularly in the areas of energy and trade. He highlighted that the European Union stands as Morocco’s principal trading partner
Similarly, the European Commission’s executive for economic and financial affairs, tax and customs, and trade, Mr. Paolo Gentiloni, stated that cooperation between Morocco and the European Union is poised to enhance economic and cultural development and promote green initiatives. He underscored the importance of the strategic relationship between the European Union and Morocco and emphasized the strong relationship of trust and cooperation between Europe and Morocco
Furthermore, Mr. Gentiloni recognized the significance of Morocco hosting the annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank, given the challenging geopolitical context and the recent Al Hoceima earthquake, and noted that “Morocco should be proud of successfully organizing this event in a difficult context”
This meeting provided an opportunity to explore the development of the strategic partnership between Morocco and the European Union, as well as ways to strengthen economic cooperation, particularly in the field of renewable energy, and enhance trade exchanges
