Microsoft is moving quickly to close the gap with its competitors in the race to develop artificial intelligence chips, taking an unusual approach by relying on its partner OpenAI to design these specialized processors. This strategy comes amid intensified competition with tech giants like Google and Amazon.
According to TechCrunch, Microsoft will leverage technologies developed by OpenAI in partnership with Broadcom, while fully acquiring the intellectual property rights to the new chip designs.
Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, confirmed that all innovations introduced by OpenAI in the field of AI systems will be available to Microsoft without restrictions, reflecting the depth of the strategic ties between the two companies.
Under the latest update to their agreement, Microsoft will be able to benefit from the chip designs developed by OpenAI until 2032, while continuing to access the latest AI models the company is working on. The only exception concerns consumer-oriented devices, which OpenAI plans to produce and market independently.
