Belgian Star Chooses Morocco and Changes His Sporting Nationality

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has approved the request of Anouar Ait El Hadj, a midfielder for Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise, to change his sporting nationality.

The player, who has Moroccan roots, expressed his desire to represent Morocco, his country of origin, instead of Belgium. This decision follows deep reflection on the sports project presented by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.

Ait El Hadj also denied recent rumors suggesting he had rejected this move, confirming that he made the decision based on his own will and with the intention of proudly wearing the Moroccan national team jersey in the future.

Although Ait El Hadj previously represented Belgium at youth levels, he has now completed the formalities to switch his sporting nationality and become eligible to join the Atlas Lions.

The midfielder had an outstanding season with his Belgian club, playing in 33 matches, scoring 5 goals, and providing 4 assists. His contract with Union Saint-Gilloise runs until the summer of 2028.
