A Common Daily Habit That May Increase the Risk of Stomach Cancer

A recent study revealed concerning findings about the link between excessive salt consumption and an increased likelihood of developing stomach cancer, which may prompt many to reconsider their daily eating habits.

The results of the research conducted by a team from the University of Vienna showed that individuals who habitually added large amounts of salt to their food were up to 41% more likely to develop stomach cancer, compared to those who consumed it moderately or rarely.

The study’s conclusions were based on the analysis of extensive data involving over 470,000 adults in the United Kingdom, followed for 11 years. Several factors were taken into account, including age, social status, and lifestyle, such as smoking and alcohol consumption.

The study’s results indicate that excess salt may damage the stomach’s protective lining, causing tissue damage and opening the door to abnormal cellular developments that could lead to cancer.

The lead researcher of the study, nutritionist Salma Kronsteinner-Jesewitsch, stated that these findings contribute to raising awareness about the dangers of excessive salt intake, calling for preventive measures that focus on improving daily eaing habits.
