Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has announced a series of significant changes expected for the company’s social platforms, stating that it is time to return to the company’s roots.
In a video posted on his official social media accounts, Zuckerberg confirmed that these changes will prioritize freedom of expression, especially following the return of Donald Trump, the elected president of the United States, to the White House.
Zuckerberg specified that the changes will begin in the United States, where the current fact-checking system will be replaced by “community notes” created by users. This approach is inspired by the platform “X,” owned by Elon Musk, which relies on user contributions to add warnings and context to controversial posts.
He also indicated that Facebook, Instagram, and Threads will significantly reduce their moderation activities while increasing recommendations for political content. Zuckerberg emphasized that Meta’s fact-checkers were accused of political bias, which has negatively impacted the trust the company aims to build.
In another initiative, Zuckerberg announced the relocation of content moderation teams from California to Texas, where concerns about bias in the workforce will be less prominent.
