SpaceX, the American aerospace manufacturer, announced on Tuesday that it is postponing the launch of the Polaris Dawn mission by at least one day. This mission would have marked the first spacewalk by an entirely private crew. The postponement is due to a helium leak detected in ground equipment at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, just hours before the scheduled launch.
The five-day mission was set to make history with the first commercial spacewalk (EVA), where crew members were to conduct a 20-minute spacewalk approximately 700 kilometers above Earth.
In a statement, the company said it is now aiming for a launch of the spacecraft, carried by a Falcon 9 rocket, on Wednesday. Teams are currently investigating the helium leak in the ground equipment.
It is worth noting that SpaceX has already postponed the launch of this mission several times. Initially scheduled for Monday, then postponed to Tuesday, the launch has now been rescheduled for Wednesday due to this technical issue.
