Shanghai Issued China’s first e-visa, as part of the Asian country’s efforts to promote the use of electronic visas.
The Exit and Entry Administration Bureau of the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau announced that a traveler with an e-visa issued by the bureau arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport from Singapore last Friday.
After undergoing inspection procedures by the border inspection services, the traveler crossed the border to become the first foreigner to enter the country with an e-visa.
The National Immigration Administration has decided to pilot the issuance of e-visas in the Lingang area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone to improve the country’s visa system and enhance efficiency and services. In this context, Yu Wei, head of visas at the Exit and Entry Administration Bureau of the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau, said that the bureau is currently issuing e-visas for visits, business, talents, work, and personal affairs.
The e-visa is valid for a single entry, with a validity period of 15 days and a maximum stay of 30 days. An e-visa holder can enter China through any open port in Shanghai and exit through any open port in the country.
