MIRAOUI Plan to Strengthen Protection of University Research and Combat Piracy Threats

Alalam24, The Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Abdellatif MIRAOUI, unveiled the efforts made by his ministry to strengthen scientific research  protect intellectual property in Moroccan universities.

The “Institutional Pact in the Field of Invention Patents in the Moroccan University” was officially approved, and it includes six universities and one higher education institution not affiliated with the university.

This pact focuses on best practices in scientific research and was developed in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property. This is part of the government’s efforts to encourage innovation and strengthen the legal protection of innovations and scientific research.

In the context of combating scientific piracy, MIRAOUI confirmed that his ministry has taken measures, including the launch of a computer program to combat scientific piracy. Universities and higher education institutions benefit from this program to preemptively combat cases of plagiarism. Other efforts include the use of electronic publication of theses while preserving confidentiality when necessary.

In terms of intellectual property protection, the ministry reaffirms its commitment to protecting the intellectual property rights of doctoral students and encourages knowledge sharing and respect for scientific ethics. A scientific ethics committee is responsible for monitoring these processes to ensure the integrity of scientific research and achieve sustainable progress in the field of higher education in Morocco.
