Alalam24,The United States is struggling with an “out-of-control” outbreak of sexually transmitted diseases, according to warnings from the National Association of STD Clinics.
This warning comes after the publication of an annual report on sexually transmitted diseases by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which reported more than 2.5 million cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis in the United States.
Chlamydia emerges as one of the most common infections in 2022, and although it has remained at the top for years, the recent increase in syphilis cases is causing concern among health officials.
Syphilis threatens the lives of adults and children, especially when transmitted from mother to child during pregnancy or childbirth, with an 80% increase in syphilis cases over the past five years.
While syphilis is curable with antibiotics if caught early, the increase in cases is a sign that the country is not doing enough to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
