Can Alzheimer’s disease be transmitted through hormones

Alalam24, In a major breakthrough, a scientific study has provided the first evidence that Alzheimer’s disease, one of the causes of dementia, can be transmitted between individuals through complex pathways.

The study focused on five people who developed Alzheimer’s disease at an early age, between 38 and 55 years old, after receiving hormones from the brains of deceased donors. Three other people also showed signs of brain damage or memory loss.

How is this possible?

The study confirmed that these people had received human growth hormone from the pituitary glands of deceased donors. The results showed that the transmission of Alzheimer’s disease was likely due to contamination of the hormones with proteins that implanted the disease in their brains.

Human growth hormone is used to treat growth problems in children. This treatment has been controversial in the past due to its association with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, which also causes dementia.

This discovery highlights the importance of quality control of hormones and their purity. It also opens up new research avenues into the mechanisms of transmission of Alzheimer’s disease between individuals.
