Professor Vladimir Popov, a specialist in therapy, pharmacology, and medicine at the Russian University of Biotechnology, explained that certain common foods can act as triggers for migraine attacks, in addition to alcohol, which is already known for its negative effects.
The expert pointed out that chocolate and certain fermented cheeses, such as cheddar and blue cheese, may increase the likelihood of migraine episodes. He also recommended avoiding foods high in additives such as monosodium glutamate, artificial sweeteners, and nitrates, which are often found in sausages, fast food, and processed products.
According to Popov, controlling one’s diet is a key element in reducing the frequency of migraines. He also stressed the importance of drinking sufficient amounts of water daily — between 1.5 and 2 liters. Coffee and tea can be consumed, but in moderation (up to 3 cups of coffee and 6 cups of tea per day).
In addition, he advised focusing on foods rich in magnesium, such as spinach, almonds, cashews, avocado, and whole grains, as well as omega-3 fatty acids found in fatty fish like salmon and tuna. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of incorporating leafy green vegetables, such as broccoli and cabbage, into daily meals.
