Dermatologist and aesthetic specialist Dr. Aliya Mahfouz warns that some perfumes contain dangerous chemicals, such as methanol, which can cause severe skin damage. Among the most common effects are:
Skin darkening: occurs when the alcohol-based components of perfume react directly with sunlight, leaving dark spots that are difficult to treat.
Skin irritations: some people may experience intense itching, redness, or changes in skin color immediately after perfume contacts the skin, even without sun exposure.
It is worth noting that spraying perfume on clothing does not eliminate these risks, as volatile particles can penetrate fabrics and reach the skin.

Respiratory allergies that manifest as coughing and shortness of breath due to the immune system’s reaction to chemicals.
Increased risk of asthma caused by irritation of the airways and lungs.
Chronic headaches resulting from irritation of nasal nerves by strong fragrances.
Nausea and vomiting, particularly when inhaling perfumes rich in chemical mixtures.
