The legal hemp-based product industry in Morocco is witnessing remarkable growth, with a steady expansion of production and promotion both locally and internationally.
According to data released by the National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis-Related Activities, 12 new dietary supplements derived from hemp have recently been approved, bringing the total number of authorized Moroccan-made supplements to 21.
In addition to dietary supplements, Morocco is working on developing various food products using CBD, a non-psychoactive compound extracted from hemp, including coffee, flour, and chocolate.
These new products reflect Morocco’s strategy to enhance the value of legal hemp cultivation by integrating it into the food and pharmaceutical industries, thereby adding significant economic value.
Internationally, Moroccan hemp-based products are gaining increased recognition. Ten Moroccan products have already been registered in the French and German markets. Moreover, other Moroccan companies plan to introduce their products to European countries such as Poland and Belgium, while also targeting the African market with registrations in five countries across the continent.
In a notable breakthrough, a Moroccan company has successfully produced the first medication derived from hemp, aimed at treating epilepsy. This product is expected to be marketed soon, marking a significant milestone for the national pharmaceutical industry and highlighting the substantial potential of this crop in strengthening Morocco’s economy.
