General Motors plans to cut over 1,000 jobs in its global software and services division, following a review to streamline the unit’s operations, according to CNBC.
These job cuts, including nearly 600 in General Motors’ technical division, come less than six months after leadership changes overseeing operations, notably the departure of former Apple CEO Mike Abbott from the automaker after less than a year for health reasons.
A General Motors spokesperson said in an email: “As we build the future of General Motors, we must simplify to drive speed and excellence, make bold choices, and prioritize investments that will have the greatest impact. As a result, we are reducing some teams within our software and services organization. We are grateful to those who have helped build a strong foundation that positions General Motors for leadership going forward.”
