American aerospace company SpaceX is gearing up to launch the first crewed spaceflight to orbit the Earth’s poles later this year.
This ambitious mission is part of the company’s efforts to expand private space tourism, an industry that has seen significant growth in the United States in recent years.
The planned three-to-five-day mission will carry four individuals, including Chun Wang, co-founder of Bitcoin mining companies F2Pool and BitFury. Wang will be joined on this unique adventure by Norwegian filmmaker Yanicke Mikelsen, Australian polar explorer Eric Phillips, and German robotics researcher Rabia Rogue.
The mission has been named “Fram 2,” in honor of the famous polar exploration vessel. The crew will use a SpaceX Dragon capsule, equipped with an observation dome, to fly at an altitude of between 425 and 450 kilometers above Earth.
Aboard the mission, the crew will conduct a series of scientific experiments, including taking the first X-ray images in space and studying a luminous phenomenon similar to the Northern Lights.
This mission is part of a series of crewed missions conducted by SpaceX. Over the past four years, the company has completed 13 crewed missions, including transporting NASA astronauts to the International Space Station, as well as space tourism flights such as the Inspiration4 mission in 2021, which was the first all-civilian spaceflight.
