Researchers Reveal the Benefits of Natural Light on the Brain and Attention

A recent study has shown that regular exposure to natural light during daytime hours helps enhance mental abilities, particularly by improving concentration, increasing attention, and speeding up reaction times.

The research, conducted by neuroscience specialists at the University of Manchester, relied on both field and laboratory experiments involving a number of volunteers. The findings revealed that consistent daytime lighting supports cognitive performance, especially in tasks related to visual perception. Light intensity appears to be the most influential factor in activating mental functions, regardless of the length of the day.

Altuğ Didikoglu, the lead researcher of the study, explained that the data confirmed a positive effect of light exposure, whether for short or long periods, even when participants were carrying out their daily activities outside the laboratory environment.

He added that natural light is one of the most important environmental factors regulating several biological functions in humans, such as the circadian rhythm, sleep quality, and cognitive processes.
