The Fate of Enlisted Children in Tindouf Camps Raises Concerns of the International Community in Geneva

The fate of children enlisted in the Tindouf camps was the focus of a meeting held on the sidelines of the 56th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva (June 18 – July 12).

During this meeting, organized by the International Civil Diplomacy Group and moderated by Pedro Ignacio Altamirano, professor of political science and president of the Altamirano Foundation, numerous experts highlighted the human rights concerns in refugee camps, particularly the fate of children enlisted in the Tindouf camps.

Judith Ségara, a Spanish activist, addressed the moral and psychological effects on children of war, stressing that “children of conflicts, particularly in the Tindouf camps, are the most vulnerable victims, their fundamental rights, such as security and education, being violated on a recurrent basis.”

Ségara also highlighted the profound repercussions of violence on the behavioral development of these children, indicating that “the moral dilemmas they face can hinder their behavioral development, creating a dissonance between their core values and the brutal reality in which they live.”
