The United Nations has projected that global temperatures will continue to remain at record or near-record levels between 2026 and 2030.
A report issued by the World Meteorological Organization on near-term climate forecasts stated that there is a 75% probability that the global average temperature will exceed the 1.5°C threshold above pre-industrial levels over the next five years.
The report, prepared by the United Kingdom’s national meteorological service, also noted an 86% chance that one of the years within this period could become the hottest year ever recorded.
The source added that 2024 still holds the record as the hottest year ever recorded worldwide to date.
