Essential Nutrients for Youthful Skin After 30

Many people adopt a daily skincare routine filled with products that are often expensive, aiming to maintain a radiant and healthy-looking complexion as they age.

However, experts emphasize that a balanced diet remains a fundamental factor in supporting skin health. A well-adapted nutritional regimen can provide the essential elements needed to maintain firm and glowing skin.

In this context, nutritionist Jennifer Hanway has highlighted three key nutrients she recommends from the age of 30 onward to strengthen the skin and improve its appearance.

She explains that collagen production begins to decline in the late twenties. Collagen is a crucial component that gives the skin its structure and elasticity. This production can be supported through an adequate intake of amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein. She also notes that, with age, the body does not prioritize the skin over vital organs, meaning that a lack of protein directly affects the health of the skin, hair, and nails. She therefore recommends consuming between 1 and 2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight.

Over time, the skin’s natural barrier weakens, making it more vulnerable to internal aggressors such as inflammation, as well as external factors like sun exposure and pollution.

Plastic surgeon Anthony Youn states that consuming foods rich in omega-3 helps slow down the signs of aging. Meanwhile, nutrition expert Marius Morariu points out that these healthy fats, found in fish, nuts, and plant oils, are beneficial for both the skin and the brain, despite common misconceptions about fats. Studies have also shown that omega-3 supplements can help reduce inflammation and improve skin balance.

Finally, coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is an antioxidant naturally produced by the body that plays an important role in cell growth and repair. It also helps protect the cells responsible for collagen production, thereby preserving the skin’s elasticity and youthful appearance. Research has shown that taking CoQ10 supplements can reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture.
