Instagram has announced the rollout of an innovative feature designed to give users greater control over the type of content recommended by its algorithms. This update comes as the platform surpasses three billion monthly active users worldwide.
The new feature, which will first be introduced for Reels, allows users to view the list of interests and topics that Instagram uses to build its recommendations. They can then easily modify these preferences by adding new areas of interest or removing unwanted ones, creating a more personalized and accurate browsing experience.
This update is part of a new strategy unveiled by Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, who emphasized that the platform is now focusing on enhancing Reels content and messaging services, which he described as the main drivers of growth for the coming phase.
Mosseri added that Instagram aims to improve its recommendation system to make it more responsive to users’ real behavior and genuine interests, rather than limiting suggestions to content from accounts they already follow.
