Some Wise Members of the European Parliament: No Limit to Cooperation with Morocco
Alalam24, The controversy is still raging within the corridors of the European Parliament, especially after the vote in favor of challenging the Moroccan judiciary’s decision regarding the Maradi case, which caused a crisis between the European Union Parliament and Rabat.
It is worth noting that this approach is for a group of members in the European Parliament who have been integrated into the myth of the Sahrawi people and what follows from these lies and allegations of opposing both Moroccan and European interests.
In this context, some wise members of the European Parliament have stressed the great importance of appointing a new representative to the Joint Committee, whose last meeting was held in May 2022. Many European MPs confirmed that holding this joint meeting would be very useful, especially in the current circumstances of parliamentary diplomacy, to play its role in defusing tensions in its relationship with Morocco.
One of the reasons why the Kingdom of Morocco is highly valued by the European Union is that it is a vital pillar of the EU’s policy in Africa and the Mediterranean, and it is of utmost importance in migration, economic, security, and geopolitical issues.
Therefore, some members have affirmed that it is necessary to maintain it in any way possible.
Moreover, according to most experts, the Kingdom of Morocco is a reliable partner of the European Union in managing migration flows, which Rabat has continuously confirmed.
Without neglecting the economic aspect, Morocco is a major trading partner of the European Union, and they have long-term economic relations and understandings, which made the European Union become Morocco’s first economic partner. Morocco is also the second-largest trading partner of the European Union in the South Mediterranean region, in addition to security cooperation, which is part of the fight against terrorism and organized crime.
As for the part related to geopolitical goals, Morocco remains a source of stability for the Mediterranean basin and North Africa.
Therefore, the interest of the European Union is a constant interest in maintaining good relations with Morocco and working towards a stable and secure region, listening to it, and supporting it in all political, economic, social, and other fields.
