An investigation conducted by the BBC has revealed a worrying rise in the illegal sale of teeth-whitening products on social media platforms, where transactions are often carried out secretly in public places to avoid official supervision.
According to the report, the seized products contain extremely high levels of hydrogen peroxide, exceeding the legally permitted limits by more than 500 times, despite being marketed under misleading labels that claim to offer “extra-strength whitening.”
The investigation also highlighted the ease of obtaining fake certificates in the field of teeth whitening through online platforms, allowing individuals with no scientific qualifications or legal authorization to engage in activities that pose a direct threat to public health.
Health experts have issued strong warnings against the use of these highly toxic substances, stressing that they can cause gum burns, tooth damage, and even complete tooth loss, making them a serious risk to consumer safety.
