Social Media Negatively Affects the Academic Performance of 42% of Young Moroccans

The Economic, Social, and Environmental Council has confirmed that excessive use of social media by children negatively impacts their academic performance, with studies showing that 42% of young people suffer from a decline in their academic achievements due to the time spent in front of screens.

This uncontrolled use affects concentration and reduces the time dedicated to studying, increasing the likelihood of school dropout or even leaving education entirely. Furthermore, addiction to these digital platforms leads to social isolation and unhealthy behaviors, deepening children’s academic difficulties.

In addition to the academic impact, the report highlights that excessive use of social media threatens the mental and physical health of children, with this habit being linked to increased rates of anxiety and depression.
