Women Contract HIV After Cosmetic Procedures at Unlicensed Spa
Three women in the United States have contracted HIV after undergoing cosmetic procedures at an unlicensed medical spa in New Mexico, raising concerns and highlighting the dangers of such practices.
According to a report by the British newspaper “The Guardian,” an investigation conducted by US federal health officials between 2018 and 2023 into the spa revealed that staff were reusing single-use equipment, exposing clients to a serious risk of contracting bloodborne infections, including HIV.
The investigation found that these HIV infection cases were the first to be directly linked to cosmetic services. Specifically, it was determined that procedures involving the “Vampire Facial” technique were the source of the virus transmission.
