Expected 77% Increase in Cancer Cases Worldwide by 2050

Alalam24, The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a World Health Organization (WHO) agency, has issued a warning about the expected increase in cancer cases. It predicts that the number of cases will exceed 35 million by 2050, representing a 77% increase compared to 2022 statistics.

The agency indicates that the main factors contributing to this increase are smoking, alcohol consumption, obesity, and air pollution.

Estimates predict that developed countries will be the most affected by this increase, with 4.8 million additional new cases expected by 2050.

In an analysis by the Head of the Cancer Surveillance Section, Freddie Bray, he highlighted that the impact of this increase will not be uniform across all countries and societies. He emphasized the need to address economic and social challenges to cope with the growing burden of cancer globally.
