Alalam24, An international team of researchers has discovered a new link between retinal thickness and the risk of developing heart and lung diseases.
A recent study, involving 44,828 participants, showed that people with abnormally thin retinas are more likely to suffer from eye, neurological, cardiovascular, and respiratory diseases, including bronchitis and emphysema.
This study is the first of its kind to establish a link between retinal health and respiratory system health.
The results suggest that retinal exams could become part of routine medical checkups to help detect and predict heart and lung diseases at an early stage.
This study provides further evidence that the retina is a window into the body’s overall health.
