Microsoft founder and American billionaire Bill Gates has stated that, although climate change is dangerous and has severe consequences, it does not threaten the survival of humanity.
In his new memo titled “Three Hard Truths About Climate”, Gates argues that the idea linking climate change to the extinction of humankind is mistaken. According to him, humanity will continue to thrive in most regions of the world, provided that the right policies are implemented and investments are made in innovation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
These remarks represent a notable shift in Gates’s position compared to his statements four years ago, when he warned that rising temperatures could make areas near the equator uninhabitable by the end of the century, causing major disruptions for millions of people, especially the poor, according to The Daily Independent.
In his memo, Gates now calls for a focus on improving people’s quality of life, rather than solely limiting temperature rise. He emphasized in an interview with The New York Times that this new stance does not represent a retreat from his previous views, but rather a realistic reassessment of current conditions and the future.
