General Population Census.. Increase in the Percentage of Moroccan Households Living in “Very Small” Housing
The detailed results of the 2024 General Population and Housing Census, announced by the High Commissioner for Planning, Chakib Benmoussa, during a press conference in Rabat, highlight significant changes in urban housing patterns in Morocco.
The data reveals an increase in the percentage of households occupying homes with one to two rooms, rising from 35.7% in 2014 to 43.5% in 2024.
Meanwhile, the proportion of households living in homes with three or more rooms has decreased, from 64.3% in 2014 to 56.5% in 2024.
These changes reflect a growing trend towards smaller housing, a consequence of the economic and social impacts on living patterns in Moroccan urban areas.
This shift is linked to several factors, such as the rising cost of living, the increase in real estate prices, and the growing gap between supply and demand in the urban housing market. It also reflects an increase in the number of smaller households and changes in family and social dynamics.
