Addressing Overcrowding Crisis in Moroccan Prison Facilities
Alalam24, The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Rehabilitation has called upon judicial and administrative authorities to swiftly find effective solutions to address the issue of overcrowding in prison facilities.
In a statement issued by the delegation, it expressed deep concern over the alarming increase in overcrowding and urged judicial and administrative authorities to find viable solutions to tackle the problem in order to prevent potential security disruptions and the resulting challenges in terms of accommodation, nutrition, medical care, and rehabilitation programs for reintegration
The same source confirmed that as of August 7, 2023, the total number of inmates in prison facilities has reached an unprecedented 104,000, surpassing the current capacity of prison facilities, which stands at 64,600 beds. Despite continuous efforts by the General Delegation to renovate and expand prison facilities in Morocco, the overcrowding issue remains a pressing concern
