Strengthening the Strategic Partnership: Morocco-Belgium Relations Flourish Across Diverse Fields

Alalam24, Morocco and Belgium have been strengthening their partnership across various fields to serve the interests of both friendly nations, which share diverse economic, social, and cultural ties. The priority areas for this strong and strategic partnership include economy, trade, renewable energy, security, justice, migration, and culture. The foundation of this robust relationship is rooted in the century and a half of bilateral ties celebrated by the two countries in 2021

Over time, the cooperation between Morocco and Belgium has evolved to address current and future shared challenges, thanks to regular political dialogues and mutual determination to enhance their partnership even further

A significant milestone in reaffirming this shared commitment was marked by the visit of Belgian Foreign Minister, Sophie Wilmès, to Morocco on October 20-21, 2022. The joint declaration issued after her talks with Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, provided an opportunity to reiterate this common will and lay the foundation for further multi-faceted cooperation aimed towards the future

This new phase in the bilateral relationship aims to expand economic and trade cooperation, encompassing areas such as energy transition, green hydrogen, circular economy, blue economy, digitization, and healthcare. In this regard, special emphasis has been placed on encouraging Belgian companies to explore new investment opportunities in Morocco

Moroccan expatriates in Belgium, considered as a pillar in bringing the two kingdoms closer, are invited to play a more significant role in this new stage of bilateral partnership, particularly through cultural cooperation that is at the heart of future activities

During virtual talks held on December 5, 2022, between Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, both sides expressed satisfaction with the excellent partnership between the two countries, as well as the bilateral cooperation in the fields of justice and migration

Both leaders also emphasized the importance of developing economic and trade cooperation between Morocco and Belgium, especially in the green economy. Prime Minister Akhannouch highlighted Morocco’s leadership in regional renewable energies and the government’s efforts to improve the investment climate, encourage and facilitate foreign direct investments to stimulate the national economy, through the adoption of a new investment charter

This new phase of enhanced bilateral relations is marked by regular visits from ministers, parliamentarians, associations, cultural actors, and others, with the aim of strengthening ties and giving new impetus to fruitful cooperation between Morocco and Belgium in all fields

Morocco and Belgium, both rich in qualifications and accomplishments, continuously work towards strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between them, elevating their strategic partnership to new horizons in line with the ongoing economic, political, and social changes in the world
