Moroccan Study Opens Unexpected Avenues in Cancer Patient Treatment

A recent scientific study conducted by a team of Moroccan doctors and researchers has revealed the effectiveness of “spontaneous music therapy” in reducing anxiety among women undergoing radiotherapy for breast and gynecological cancers.

Published in the international medical journal Cureus, the study highlights that using music in a structured, U-shaped sequence significantly helped lower psychological anxiety levels in the participants. This underscores the importance of integrating psychological care into cancer treatment protocols.

This research is the first of its kind in Morocco. It was carried out by Dr. Mohamed Lahfid, a specialist in radiation oncology, Dr. Adel Nejdi, a general practitioner, oncology researcher Dr. Nabila Sellal, along with Dr. Salwa El Mrabet and Dr. Fadila Bousghiri from Mohammed VI Hospital in Tangier. The study involved the analysis of clinical data from patients undergoing treatment.

The findings showed that incorporating music into therapeutic protocols not only improves patients’ psychological well-being but may also have a positive impact on their response to radiotherapy. The study calls for expanding research and applying this approach in other healthcare institutions across Morocco.
