Health authorities in London have announced that hundreds of thousands of women in the UK will be screened for breast cancer using an artificial intelligence technology called (EDITH), in an effort to reduce waiting lists.
A report published by the British newspaper Daily Mail states that nearly 700,000 women will be invited to participate in this project, which could “trigger a revolution in cancer patient care” and lead to major advancements in breast cancer screening in the future.
According to the same source, artificial intelligence will replace for the first time one of the doctors currently used to verify the results of mammograms regarding cancer detection, which could accelerate and improve detection rates.
Health officials in the UK hope that this will also help reduce waiting lists by freeing up radiologists to work in other areas of the national health system.
