Fathima Zibouh, a political researcher and social entrepreneur of Moroccan origin, has been named “Leader of Brussels of the Year” by the Belgian magazine “L’Obi.” This award is given annually to honor leaders who inspire the community through their humanitarian and positive actions. Zibouh was chosen for her outstanding contribution to supporting marginalized and invisible groups, as well as for her significant role in strengthening ties between different cultural and social worlds.
Fathima Zibouh, who is also involved in preparing Brussels’ bid to be the European Capital of Culture in 2030, reflects through her work a strong commitment to social justice and directs her efforts toward promoting understanding among various cultures.
According to François Didesheim, founder of “L’Obi,” awarding this prize to Zibouh provides strong support for the Brussels 2030 project and is a sign of confidence in her, particularly since she comes from an immigrant background, which enhances the city’s developmental dimensions.
In a statement after winning the award, Fathima Zibouh emphasized that this recognition represents an acknowledgment of her efforts, which have spanned over two decades in service to Belgium, and Brussels in particular. She also noted that this award has a special significance for her, as it coincides with the 60th anniversary of the bilateral agreement between Morocco and Belgium, which paved the way for migration opportunities, adding a symbolic dimension to the award that connects generations and cultures.
In addition to Fathima Zibouh, “L’Obi” magazine also honored prominent figures in Belgium from various fields, such as sports, arts, and innovation, by awarding prizes to several individuals, including sprinter Nafissatou Thiam and cyclist Remco Evenepoel, in recognition of their achievements in their respective fields.
