Alalam24, Google’s parent company, Alphabet, has announced a major initiative leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance online security.
The company is offering a new open-source tool that utilizes AI to detect malware by identifying the type of file. This tool will be free to use and is already being used to protect Gmail and Google Drive products.
As part of its participation in the Munich Security Conference, Google will publish a white paper on the use of AI in cybersecurity. The document will also address a policy agenda encouraging advanced research in the AI field and suggesting ways to create guardrails for autonomous cyber defenses.
Kent Walker, SVP of Global Affairs at Alphabet, emphasized that their cybersecurity initiative tackles the so-called “defender’s dilemma”: defenders need to be right all the time, while attackers only need to be right once. He highlighted the importance of putting policies in place to minimize risks and exploit the opportunities offered by AI to maintain momentum in cybersecurity.
Additionally, Google announced further investments in research grants and partnerships to advance AI-enabled cybersecurity research initiatives. This will contribute to broadening and strengthening cybersecurity effectively.
