OpenAI has announced the launch of an “Advanced Account Security” feature aimed at strengthening the protection of ChatGPT and Codex users, in a move designed to secure accounts exposed to cyberattacks, especially as artificial intelligence is increasingly used for sensitive and personal tasks.
This optional feature adds an extra layer of protection through strict security measures that prevent common attacks such as phishing. Passwords are replaced with physical or digital security keys, while traditional recovery options are disabled, active session durations are reduced, and instant login alerts are sent to users.
The system also enhances privacy by stopping the use of subscribers’ data for training artificial intelligence models. This step is particularly intended to protect high-risk groups such as journalists, researchers, and political activists by safeguarding their sensitive information.
The feature is expected to become mandatory for certain users enrolled in the trusted cybersecurity access program starting next June, as part of the company’s strategy to protect the professional and personal sensitive data increasingly stored in these accounts.
To encourage adoption of the system, OpenAI has partnered with Yubico to provide security keys at reduced prices for users, emphasizing that protecting AI-related accounts has become an urgent necessity as the technology expands across various fields.
