International Workshop.. The International University of Rabat Commits to the digital preservation of historical heritage
The International University of Rabat, through its School of Architecture and research laboratory, inaugurated an international workshop today in collaboration with the Heritage Sciences Institute of the Italian National Research Center, with support from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Urban Agency of Kenitra. This workshop is part of the intensive Master’s program weeks and aims to promote research on the digitalization of historical heritage.
Led by Professor Iman Benani, director of the School of Architecture and holder of the UNESCO Chair in “Historic Urban Landscape,” the workshop highlights the integration of digital tools for the conservation and enhancement of heritage.
Using the heritage of Kenitra as a model, participants—primarily researchers and students—will explore the application of new technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) to document, analyze, and diagnose heritage sites while developing methods for their preservation and safeguarding.
This project is the result of an existing partnership between the School of Architecture at the International University of Rabat and the Urban Agency of Kenitra, with their collaborative efforts over the years focused on the 20th-century heritage and the historic urban landscape of the region. This year’s workshop marks a significant step in research initiatives aimed at not only raising students’ awareness of local heritage challenges but also implementing innovative solutions aligned with contemporary realities and international practices in heritage conservation.
this workshop represents both a step forward in academic research and a valuable contribution to preserving Moroccan cultural heritage, while strengthening the University’s commitment to addressing local challenges through international partnerships and modern solutions.
