La Liga to Use Artificial Intelligence to Select Match Referees Starting Next Season

According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, La Liga has decided to use artificial intelligence to help select match referees starting from next season.

The same source stated that artificial intelligence will recommend two or three referees for each match based on specific criteria, while the final decision will remain in human hands, with officials officially choosing one of the proposed referees.

The president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, said: “We will use artificial intelligence in refereeing starting next season.”

He added: “We will implement two important features: first, referee evaluation; second, referee appointments for matches. With the help of artificial intelligence, three referees will be proposed to the responsible committee.”
