The United Nations warned on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 — just two days before world leaders gather in the city of Belém, Brazil, for the “COP30” Climate Conference — that the planet is heading toward a temperature rise of up to 2.5°C above pre-industrial levels. This figure is far beyond the goals of the Paris Agreement and poses potentially catastrophic consequences for the environment.
According to calculations by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), global warming could range between 2.3°C and 2.5°C during the current century, even if countries fully implement their climate commitments, the agency noted, on the eve of the opening of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference, to be held in the Amazon region.
